This book consists of four units, providing students with knowledge of applied linguistics, starting from the difference between descriptive and applied linguistics, sociolinguistics, corpus linguistics, and pragmatics. Students with minimal knowledge of linguistics will be able to understand applied linguistic concepts by reading the general theories and doing some exercises in this book. !e exercises in this teacher book can be done individually, in pairs, in small groups, or large groups. Furthermore, there are case studies or project assignments at the end of each unit so that students are able to demonstrate critical, logical, and creative thinking attitudes. For long-term benefits, this book provides the basic linguistics knowledge for producing exposition, argumentation, persuasion, descriptive, instructional, and narrative texts in English. In addition, students would master the nature and function of English and Indonesian as a means of oral and written communication properly and correctly. By the end of the course, students are expected to be able to communicate effectively and appropriately in English, both written and spoken.
